CHARITY

Charity is particularly close to a Freemasons heart and at our Lodge meetings and social events we are always mindful of the needs of others less fortunate than ourselves. Freemasonry in general has donated large sums to many worthy causes (more  than £7M in 2007-8) including research into diseases, care for the vulnerable, disaster relief, adults and children’s hospices etc.

Freemasons are taught that our family and connections come first but are encouraged to give what we can in support of others. The brethren of Earl Shrewsbury Lodge, their Ladies, families and friends have been very generous over the years.

There are many charities both Masonic and Non-Masonic and other worthwhile causes we have supported. Over the past few years we have raised thousands of pounds through general social events and masonic functions for a variety of good causes for instance the following. Non-Masonic Charities.

Acorn Children's Hospice Walsall

- A hospice trust that cares for life-limited children and their families. A cheque for computer consumables has been presented to the Walsall Hospice.

Saxon Hill Community School and Physical Disability Support Service

- A coeducational special school for students aged two to 19 years of age. Funds are raised and functions organised for this worthy service.

Midlands Air Ambulance Service

- A ‘life saver’, serving communities across six counties of the Midlands. Money was raised at a social function and a cheque was presented by the Lodge recently.

The Donna Louise Trust

- A children's hospice giving respite for children with life threatening conditions. A collection made at a Lodge function was donated to the Trust.

ADDULLAM

- A specialist Housing Association providing good quality residential accommodation and support for vulnerable people. A collection made at a Lodge function was donated to the Trust.

Lifelites Computers for Children’s Hospices

- Lifelites Project started out 1999 with financial help from United Grand Lodge. Help from our lodge members with training has been provided to the local Hospice.

Help for Heroes (H4H)

-  Help for Heroes (H4H) was founded by Bryn and Emma Parry after a profoundly moving visit to Selly Oak Hospital in 2007. They met some extraordinary brave young people who had been badly wounded and they just wanted to do something to help.
